Abstract

This research aims to see how the Film The Magnificent Seven (TMS) of 2016, a remake of  Seven Samurai (SS) of 1954, transforms expressions of Japanese culture into expressions of American culture, especially individualism and multiculturalism, because actually remaking a film is an adaptation process. Two things that are targeted to be found in this qualitative descriptive research are the representation of individualism and multiculturalism and the plausibility of the TMS as a remake film. The findings show that individualism and multiculturalism are clearly represented in the characterization, but the plausibility of the film in the context of the realistic film genre are disturbed due to the inappropriate time setting.
