Abstract

  • The author's purpose in choosing this topic and the film LION by Garth Davis is to analyze the impact of socio-cultural and culture shock on the people depicted in the film. The author understands that the situations presented in this film happen to people who migrate to other countries or students who want to study abroad to achieve prosperity. The film tells the story of a boy who gets lost in his hometown in a town called Ganeshalaya. And it gets lost in a very remote area of India called Bengali. He survives in a completely new environment that he encounters, limited by the language he understands and the environmental conditions are completely different. Saroo has to accept that his adoptive parents adopted him and came from Australia, so Saroo again adapts to a new culture and has been missing for 25 years. Saroo tries to remember his past so he can meet a family he doesn't know. To analyze this thesis, the author uses the approach of social culture and culture shock. The method used by the author is descriptive qualitative, which is to reveal the events or facts seen in the film. From the results of the analysis, the authors found that social culture and the culture of trauma are a package that does not separate when a person deviates from their homeland. They are then influenced by many factors such as time, environment and people close to them.
