The Cause and The Effects of Hiding The Real Identity and Becoming A Gay towards Freddie Mercury’s Life in Brian Singer’s Movie Bohemian Rhapsody

The Bohemian Rhapsody film is chosen as the main source for this analysis because there is something interesting and important that can be learned from this film which the conditions displayed in this film also occur in today's society.
This film tells about the British rock band, Queen. The film tells the life of singer Freddie Mercury, which culminates in Queen's appearance at the Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in 1985. The film also tells the life path of Freddie Mercury from the beginning of the band, the story of his love, sexuality disorder, until suffering from HIV / AIDS .
In this research, there are three objectives of study. They are (1) to explain Freddie Mercury's biography in real life and in the film itself; (2) to analyze what factors Freddie Mercury hide his real identity; and (3) to reveal the cause and the effects of Freddie Mercury becomes a gay.
To reach the objectives, the writer uses Biographical and Psychological approaches and Queer theory. In psychology, she chooses identity theory. By applying the approaches & theories with Qualitative method, it can be concluded that Freddie hides his real identity as a Pakistani and a gay. As being explained in his biography, his family has trauma to live in his hometown because of violence that his family prefers living in London. Since he lived there, he adapts British culture including his social life. He likes going to club to watch music live. This causes his meeting with a band, Smile, and he joins in this band because the vocalist of the band has resigned. After becoming the new vocalist, the name of the band is changed be Queen. This band becomes famous and popular in the world. Freddie and his friends succeed in this band. However, His popularity causes him to have new social life by having parties with his first manager. But, his manager asks him to have sex parties with men because the manager is a gay and he knows that Freddie is also a gay. Although he hides his sexual orientation, by having romance relationship with his girlfriend, Marry, he cannot refuse his manager’s kissing and offering to have sex parties. This has effects toward his life. The effects destroy his health, getting HIV/AIDS, and career in Queen.
