The writer chooses The Nightingale film as the main source to be analyzed in her research because the film has so many issues to discuss, from this film she gets a lot of knowledge and lessons that she did not know at all before. In addition, she also feels this film is a reflection of social life that has been still happening in society. The objectives of this study are: (1) to find out the historical background of The Nightingale film; (2) to find out the pictures of colonization in the film; (3) to analyze the causes and effects of Clare’s revenge shown in the film. This research is conducted in the qualitative method because the writer focuses on understanding social phenomena that happen in the film. It aims to gain an understanding of meaning, develop theories, and describe realities. To reach the objectives, the writer uses three approaches, socio historical, postcolonialism, and also psychological. In socio historical, she focuses on genocide to answer the first problem. While in postcolonialism, she focuses on racism, discrimination, marginalization, oppression, power abuse, and violence. Meanwhile, to answer the third problem, the writer uses the theory of revenge and PTSD because not only aboriginal people feel the bad impact of the arrival of the British but also Irish convict who experience various types of violence that cause her to suffer from PTSD and have a desire to take revenge on the British soldiers.
