THE TRANSLATION RESULTS AND EVALUATIONS OF ENGLISH COMPOUND SENTENCES INTO INDONESIAN IN THE MITCH ALBOM’S NOVEL ENTITLED THE FIRST PHONE CALL FROM HEAVEN

Abstract

Translation is a mental activity in which a meaning of given linguistic discourse is rendered from one language to another. It is the act of transferring the linguistic entities from one language into their equivalents into another languages. In this research, the writer elaborates some of translation theories that related to the research she is going to analyze. The theories used in the research are Definition of Translation, The Process of Translation, The Types of Translation, and Compound Sentence theory. The purposes of the research are to reveal what strategy used by the translator to translate the English compound sentences in the novel and to determine the level of accuracy of their translation The research focuses only on the process and the accuracy of translation. It is the descriptive qualitative research which involves the 45 data which are analyzed in this research. All of the data are taken from the novel entitled “The First Phone Call From Heaven’ by Mitch Albom, and its translation entitled ‘Telepon Pertama Dari Surga’ by Julia Tantani. The results of the research are three categories; The accurate-level translation (14 data), the less-accurate translation (9 data) and the incorrect translation (3 data).
